Years ago a client said to me – “life is one big compromise.”   

I always thought that was an interesting saying, and I remembered it.

I searched compromise in google, and one site had a few dozen quotes on the “compromise”. What surprised me was the range of feelings about it.

Some have the attitude that you need to compromise, and others have the attitude to never compromise.

I don’t think it is that black and white. There would be times to compromise and times to never compromise.

I like the saying from the Ken Roger’s song The Gambler – “know when to hold’em , know when to fold’em. “

Compromise in Today’s Society

Now I am thinking about compromise and what I am seeing in the US political situation. From the main news stories, it appears to me that the problems become worse when one or more of the parties will not compromise.

In a post from March 2020, I linked to a video on Adaptability. The speaker said that, life is not about survival of the fittest, but having the ability to adapt quickly and well to the conditions we are faced with.

Compromise feels like giving something up. Adaptability feels like changing yourself to suit the conditions.

Either way, it leads me back to my opening statement – Life is one big compromise !
