is a song about how we sometimes do not think about the effectiveness and consequences of our actions.
We first learn from watching our parents. Some say our parents are our greatest teachers.
It was my parents who taught me my early manners, of how to dress, groom myself, greet people, and introduce myself.
I watched my Dad go to work, and my Mom look after the house. When Dad was at home, he would continue to build the house they started, and always had some things left to do. Mom would sometimes help with smaller house work tasks like painting, but she did the grocery shopping, all the shopping and made sure us kids were at school, playing with friends, or doing a hobby.
They each had their own set of jobs to do in the family.
Under it all, I understood that there was a sacrifice that had to be made in order for the family to run smoothly. That seemed to me to be responsibility and love for family.
Most people seem to get it right more often than not, and some seem to get it wrong more often than not.
We all have an idea of our abilities. We have an idea of what we can accomplish or not. I’m sure we have all turned down an idea to try something, because we thought we could not accomplish it.
Somewhere I heard the phrase – “The definition of insanity is repeating the same mistakes over and over again and expecting different results. “
Albert Einstein said “Anyone who has never made a mistake, has never tried anything new.”
The word that sticks out to me here is mistakes. What is a mistake ?
Sometimes we may not know what a mistake is. It is defined as an error in action, calculation, opinion or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, not enough knowledge or because we did not understand the concept.
I heard the phrase, “ if you keep doing what your doing, you’ll keep getting what your getting. “ Stephen Covey wrote the phrase, and I probably read it from one of his books.
I wrote the song Doing What Your Doin, thinking about that phrase and the earlier mentioned insanity definition.
Life is an evolution for each of us. It takes us time to mature and understand. Let’s hope we learn our lessons sooner rather than later.
